Invisalign for a Better Smile

by | Sep 28, 2015 | Dental Care

Invisalign is a competitive brand of removable clear plastic braces. They have grown in popularity with adults looking to improve minor alignment issues and correct their smile. The clear plastic aligners are durable and they are hard for the casual observer to notice.

You will need to wear the aligners for 20 to 22 hours each day for the duration of the alignment process. Every two weeks you will switch new set plastic aligners that are slightly different than the previous one. In most cases the total treatment time lasts around six to eight weeks.

At the initial consultation the dentist will take X-rays and create an impression of your bite pattern. These are sent to the Invisalign lab where a series of custom aligner trays are produced to match your bite pattern and alignment goals.

You can drink normally while you are wearing the aligners. However, the aligners should be removed while eating. Tobacco use can stain and damage the plastic aligners. If you use tobacco on a regular basis you will want to talk to your primary physician about the tobacco cessation program that is right for you.

Continue brushing and flossing twice a day through the duration of the realignment process. You should rinse the braces each day with an antiseptic mouthwash. If you need to freshen the braces you can brush them with a soft bristled toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste.
