Changing Your Dental Experience through Sedation Dentistry

If you are one who is completely terrified of the dental office, there is a way your dental experience can become more positive and relaxing, and that is with sedation dentistry! The dental world today offers many types of sedatives to give you the best and most comfortable experience in the dental chair. Some of the sedatives currently available include:

Oral Sedation: This type of sedative comes in the form of the pill and it has similar affects compared to those of Valium. You will take the pill one hour before your appointment, and you will begin to feel a little drowsy and completely relaxed. For those who receive a heavier dose of sedation, you will feel groggy and quite sleepy, and it is possible that you might fall asleep during your treatment. If this happens, your dentist will gently wake you when your appointment is over.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation: This sedative is also known as laughing gas. It is a light, flavored gas that is inhaled through the nose. When you receive the sedation, your dentist will place a small mask over your nose and ask you to inhale deeply for a few minutes. As the time passes, you will feel tingly, relaxed, and completely comfortable in the dental chair.
